Artist’s Notes: The Gaze was a project for my art class. The assignment was to draw an animal in oil pastel. I chose to draw a giraffe because of its bold, warm colors. The contrast of the purple background makes the piece feel impactful. The giraffe’s face is cropped in such a way that draws the viewer’s attention to its eye, because it is surprising to find yourself eye-level with a giraffe.
